Glamping not camping…

Sometimes you just need to get away…without actually going that far away! Between work, school, sports, and trying to keep up with everything else life throws our way, a weekend escape sounded like exactly what our family needed. Lucky for us, we didn’t have to travel hours to find it. Just outside of Fredericksburg sits a little hidden gem called Wilderness Presidential Resort.
Have you ever driven down Route 3 and wondered what was tucked back in the woods? Well…now you know! As soon as you pull through the entrance, you start to feel like you’ve left the hustle and bustle behind. Trees everywhere, peaceful lakes, and enough fresh air to make you forget about the never-ending to-do list waiting for you back home.
Now, don’t let the word “camping” scare you! If you’re picturing sleeping bags on the ground…think again! Wilderness Presidential Resort has something for everyone. Whether you’re bringing your RV, pitching a tent, or staying in one of their cozy cabins, there’s an option that fits just about every family. We stayed in one of the cabins, and let me tell you…it had all the comforts of home while still giving us that “we’re on vacation” feeling.
Alright…are you ready for the fun part? Because there is A LOT to do! If your family is anything like mine, sitting still isn’t really an option. One minute you’re relaxing by the lake, and the next you’re deciding who’s brave enough to tackle the ropes course! They also have kayaking, paddle boats, mini golf, fishing, swimming pools, playgrounds, hiking trails, and even an indoor pool for those days when Mother Nature decides not to cooperate. Seriously…I don’t know if a weekend is enough time to fit everything in!
Need a little break from all the activities? Grab a chair by the water and just soak it all in. There is something about watching the lake while listening to the birds that makes you slow down for a minute. The kids can keep playing while you actually enjoy a cup of coffee that’s still hot. Parents…you know exactly how rare that is!
One thing I really loved was that you can make your trip whatever you want it to be. Want a relaxing weekend? You’ve got it. Looking for nonstop adventure? That’s here too. Traveling with little ones, teenagers, grandparents…everyone can find something they’ll enjoy. It’s one of those places where family memories just seem to happen naturally.
Before you head home, make sure you take one last walk around the property. I always think vacations go by way too fast, and this one was no different. But that’s okay…because this is one of those places, you’ll find yourself planning to come back to before you’ve even unpacked the car.
So, if you’re looking for an easy weekend getaway that doesn’t require a long road trip, Wilderness Presidential Resort might just be your next adventure.
