“Long flight must haves…”
By K. Ross
If you all remember, a little while back I asked for your advice on my trip to Japan. WOW! You all came through! I received so many great tips, recommendations, and words of encouragement. Thank you! I read every single comment, and many of your suggestions made it into my travel plans.
But there was one question that kept popping up over and over again…how do you survive a 14-hour flight?!
Well…after experiencing it myself, I figured I’d share a few of my “must-haves.” Trust me…your future self will thank you!
First up…melatonin! If you’re trying to adjust to a completely different time zone, getting some sleep on the plane can make a world of difference. It definitely helped me get a head start on beating the jet lag. Was I completely adjusted when I landed? Nope! But every little bit helps!
Next…compression socks. I know, I know…they’re not exactly glamorous! LOL But sitting for 14 hours is no joke. My legs and feet were so much happier because I wore them. They were one of those things I almost didn’t pack…and now I can’t imagine making another long-haul flight without them.
Now let’s talk about entertainment! A good book is a must. Sure, the airplane has movies, TV shows, and games, but sometimes it’s nice to unplug and get lost in a great story. Before I knew it, a couple of hours had flown by. Well…not literally! We still had a long way to go! LOL
And finally…my MVP of the trip…a great neck pillow! I have tried several over the years, and let’s just say not all neck pillows are created equal. Finding one that actually supports your neck can make the difference between waking up refreshed…or waking up wondering if you’ll ever turn your head again!
Those were my top four flight essentials: melatonin, compression socks, a good book, and a great neck pillow. Simple? Yes! But they made that long journey so much more comfortable.
If you’re planning a trip to Japan—or anywhere that requires a long-haul flight—I hope these little tips help make your journey a little easier. And if you have any other travel hacks, keep sharing them! I love hearing from you, and who knows…your advice might just help another traveler get ready for their next adventure.
Until next time, safe travels, happy packing, and remember…the vacation starts the moment you board the plane! See you on the other side of the Pacific!
